Hi there! I’m Shari Reynolds and I created Wanderers Retreat House as a space for rest, inspiration and community, a place where travelers could feel at home while discovering something new in the Texas Hill Country. It was one chapter in a lifelong love affair with travel and the stories it brings to life, and the next chapter is already on the road.
I’ve always believed that travel isn’t just about where you go—it’s about how it makes you feel.
My own journey has been shaped by a lifelong love of exploration, curiosity and connection. I started my career in high tech at Dell in Austin, then ran my own digital marketing agency for over 30 years in the US and Mexico. Along the way I was drawn more and more into hospitality, helping boutique hotels in Mexico share their stories and welcome travelers from around the world.
For 18 years, Mexico was home. It’s where my love of travel grew deeper and where I learned how a place really opens up to you once you slow down and get to know it.
After nine months of solo travel, I landed in Comfort, Texas, and opened Wanderers Retreat House in the summer of 2025. For one wonderful chapter it was a home base for thinkers, dreamers and roamers, and I’m so grateful to every guest and neighbor who made it special.
Now the guest house has closed, and I’m back where I’ve always been happiest: on the road. Little Wanderer, our 1959 Airstream, is traveling with me, and together we’re scouting new places and dreaming up what comes next for Wanderers.
What hasn’t changed is why I do this. I want to share the places I love the way a local friend would: their markets, artisans, food and stories, the parts most visitors never see.
