Discover the magic of San Cristóbal de las Casas, a colorful mountain town in Chiapas where tradition and flavor come alive. This guided journey immerses you in the region’s rich culture—sampling artisanal chocolate, tasting world-class coffee, and exploring vibrant markets filled with handwoven textiles. Along the way, you’ll experience the charm of colonial architecture, fresh food, and the warm spirit that makes San Cristóbal unforgettable. The textiles you find in Wanderers Retreat House are hand made in this region of Mexico. Explore the villages where these amazing textiles are woven and meet the artisans.
My journey as a wanderer really took root in Mexico. I lived in San Miguel de Allende for 18 years and traveled extensively throughout the country, eventually founding Explore and Go Mexico and its events site, This Week in San Miguel, which highlighted all the best things to do in town.
Back in Texas, I opened Wanderers Retreat House in Comfort in 2025, weaving together hospitality, storytelling and a lifelong passion for travel. That chapter has closed, but the spirit of Wanderers keeps moving. Today I lead small-group journeys back to the places I know and love, sharing them the way a local friend would: the markets, artisans, food and stories most visitors never see.
One of the places closest to my heart is San Cristóbal de las Casas in Chiapas—a magical mountain town known for its coffee, chocolate, and handwoven textiles. I love spending time there, wandering its cobblestone streets and visiting local weaving cooperatives to see artisans at work. The colors, craftsmanship, and cultural depth of this region continually inspire me, and I’ve brought a piece of that beauty home—each room at Wanderers features handwoven textiles from San Cristóbal, a small way to share the artistry and spirit of the region with my guests.
For me, travel is more than movement—it’s about slowing down, discovering new perspectives, and finding joy in the journey. That’s the spirit I hope to share with everyone who walks through the door of my guest house or joins me on my adventures through Mexico.
